Membership Information

To join the New York Mills Fire Department, you must submit an application along with a $2.50 fee.  Applications are reviewed by the current membership, new members are accepted on a probationary basis.

To get an application stop by the firehouse the first Monday of the month between 6:30pm and 7:00pm., or call the firehouse at 736-1453 and make arrangements to pickup an application at your convenience.  Click here to download and print an online application.
     

How old must you be to join New York Mills Fire Department?

  

Is training provided,
if so, what kind?

You must be at least 18 years old, there
is no upper age limit to be a firefighter

  

All firefighter training is provided through state courses held periodically throughout the year.  All new members must complete the NYS Basic Firefighter course within the first two years of being a member.  Even though that is the only required state training, everyone is encouraged to take as many training courses as possible.  All costs are paid for by the department, all you need to give is your time.

In addition to the state courses held throughout the year, New York Mills Fire Department conducts weekly training exercises that everyone is encouraged to participate in.

NYMFD also encourages any member who is interested in becoming an EMT or Paramedic to take the required courses, again, all expenses are paid for by the department.
   

Do you need to buy your own equipment?

  

No, all equipment that you will need is provided by the fire department.

  
   

Even if you are a firefighter, do you have to go inside a building?
